Abstract

Health trajectories evolve continuously across the lifespan, influenced by changing risk factors and healthcare experiences. This study proposes a multistate analytical framework for examining transitions between multiple health conditions over time using longitudinal population data. The framework incorporates time-dependent covariates and competing risks to estimate transition probabilities between healthy, diseased, disabled, and deceased states. Findings suggest that socioeconomic status, lifestyle behaviors, and access to healthcare significantly affect transition patterns and long-term health outcomes. Compared with traditional regression techniques, the multistate approach offers greater flexibility in modeling complex health pathways and identifying high-risk populations. The framework contributes to a deeper understanding of life-course epidemiology and provides practical guidance for preventive medicine, healthcare planning, and policy evaluation.
