Abstract

Digital technologies have significantly expanded opportunities for public participation in democratic processes. This paper explores how social media shapes citizens' political attitudes, voting behavior, and civic involvement across diverse societies. It analyzes both the empowering effects of digital engagement and the risks posed by misinformation, echo chambers, and algorithm-driven content personalization. The study emphasizes the need for inclusive public policies that encourage critical thinking, fact-checking, and responsible online interaction. Strengthening institutional trust and promoting transparent digital governance are identified as essential strategies for enhancing democratic resilience.
